Faye Barker is a TV presenter and reporter who is currently working for ITV News. She can be seen regularly presenting ITV News bulletins at weekends and the ITV News London updates during Good Morning Britain and following News at Ten. Faye is also a regular reporter for ITV News. She has previously worked for Sky News, Five News, ITV Yorkshire, GMTV and Setanta Sports News.
Faye first walked into a newsroom at the age of 21 after getting a two week work experience placement with the TV channel EBN – European Business News. She left two and a half years later having worked her way up from a runner to an Assistant Producer. During this time EBN was swallowed up by CNBC, and Faye was soon writing and producing rolling business news. Her ambitions however always lay in presenting and reporting and, at the end of her shift, she could sometimes be found in an unused studio, practising reading an autocue, recording a voiceover in an edit suite or volunteering to do some extra filming.
These skills didn’t go unnoticed when she joined ITN as a Production Journalist and, at the age of 24, Faye had made her network reporting debut with 5 News and presented her first bulletin. Two years later she was offered a presenting job with ITV Yorkshire’s regional news programme, Calendar.
At ITV Yorkshire, Faye expanded her role outside of news and worked as an undercover reporter on three series of the popular peak time show “Package Holiday Undercover”, when she spent several summers exposing some of the dingiest, darkest and quite frankly disgusting hotels on the planet. Her remit also expanded into wider consumer holiday issues. While working for Calendar, Faye’s theatrical skills were also noted by producers and she performed in several pantomimes in Bradford and Leeds, whilst producing a series of behind the scenes films.
London came calling again and, for personal and professional reasons, Faye returned to the capital as a freelance presenter and reporter. Hours on air for the ITV News Channel in the aftermath of big events like the Boxing Day Tsunami set her up for a move to Sky News where she presented rolling coverage during many extraordinary and every day news events. At this time she also presented and reported once again for Five News. These busy freelance years led to Faye calling herself a “TV Tart” at times, as there were occasions when she would appear on Five News, Sky News and ITV News all in the same week.
In January 2009, Faye decided it was time to focus her loyalties with one broadcaster and she returned to ITN as a presenter of the ITV Morning News – a role which included presenting London Tonight and other ITV News bulletins. Now as a married mum-of-two she juggles working life and family life. In December 2012, the final edition of the ITV Morning News was broadcast after almost 25 years on air but Faye continues to be a key part of the presenting and reporting team at ITV News.
